This Ravioli Lasagna is a comforting layered pasta casserole made with refrigerated ravioli, a rich meat sauce, and creamy ricotta cheese mixture. Combining the ease of ravioli with the heartiness of classic lasagna flavors, it’s baked to bubbly perfection and finished with a golden mozzarella topping. Perfect for a family dinner, this dish offers all the traditional lasagna satisfaction with less prep time.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 3/4 teaspoon oregano
  • 3/4 teaspoon basil
  • 3/4 teaspoon parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Meat Sauce

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 3/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 (24 oz) jars marinara sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef broth

Other

  • 40 oz refrigerated ravioli (uncooked)
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. Prep: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a medium bowl, thoroughly combine the ricotta cheese, beaten egg, grated Parmesan cheese, oregano, basil, parsley, and salt. Set this ricotta mixture aside for layering later.
  2. Start the Base: Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread one heaping cup of marinara sauce evenly on the bottom of the dish, creating a flavorful base for the layers. Set the remaining marinara sauce aside for the meat sauce.
  3. Cook the Beef: Season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Heat a large pot over medium-high heat and cook the beef with diced onion, breaking up the meat as it cooks, until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess grease from the pot and reduce the heat to medium.
  4. Build Flavor: Add minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, tomato paste, and Italian seasoning to the cooked beef. Stir continuously and cook for 1 to 2 minutes to develop the flavors.
  5. Make the Sauce: Stir in the remaining marinara sauce and beef broth into the pot. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook uncovered for 5 to 8 minutes to thicken slightly. Then remove the pot from heat.
  6. Layer: Arrange half of the uncooked refrigerated ravioli in an even layer over the marinara sauce in the baking dish, allowing the edges to overlap slightly for full coverage.
  7. Add Layers: Spoon half of the prepared meat sauce evenly over the ravioli layer. Then evenly spread the ricotta cheese mixture on top of the meat sauce.
  8. Finish Layering: Add the remaining uncooked ravioli on top of the ricotta layer. Pour the remaining meat sauce over the ravioli layer and spread evenly.
  9. Top: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the assembled casserole to create a melty, bubbly topping.
  10. Bake: Cover the baking dish with a lid or aluminum foil (spraying the underside of the foil to prevent sticking). Bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes until heated through.
  11. Broil: Remove the cover and place under the broiler for 2 to 3 minutes, watching closely, until the mozzarella is lightly golden and bubbly on top.
  12. Rest & Serve: Let the ravioli lasagna rest for 5 to 10 minutes after removing it from the oven to set. Then slice and serve hot, enjoying the rich layers and creamy textures.

Notes

  • If using foil to cover during baking, spray underside with cooking spray to prevent cheese from sticking.
  • Feel free to substitute ground beef with ground turkey or Italian sausage for a different flavor.
  • You can add vegetables like spinach or mushrooms into the meat sauce for added nutrition.
  • Allowing the dish to rest after baking helps the layers set for easier slicing.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven for best texture.
