A refreshing and easy-to-make Watermelon Slush that’s perfect for cooling down on a hot day. Made with fresh watermelon, a touch of sugar, lemon juice, and topped with a splash of bubbly 7-Up or Sprite, this slush is naturally hydrating and delightfully sweet.

  • Total Time: 2 hours 10 minutes to 3 hours 10 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 6 cups watermelon cubes, seeds removed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 7-Up or Sprite, for serving

Instructions

  1. Blend Watermelon: Place watermelon cubes in a food processor or blender and blend until smooth to create fresh watermelon juice.
  2. Strain Juice: Pour the blended watermelon through a fine strainer over a large bowl or a 9×13-inch glass baking dish to remove pulp, reserving the smooth juice.
  3. Mix Ingredients: Stir granulated sugar and freshly squeezed lemon juice into the strained watermelon juice until the sugar fully dissolves.
  4. Freeze Mixture: Place the bowl or baking dish in the freezer for 2 to 3 hours. Every 45 minutes, stir the mixture with a fork to break up ice crystals and ensure a smooth slush texture.
  5. Serve: When ready, scrape the frozen watermelon mixture with a large spoon to create fluffy slush shavings. Fill glasses about three-quarters full with the slush, then add a splash of 7-Up or Sprite and stir gently. Garnish as desired and enjoy.

Notes

  • For best results, use ripe, sweet watermelon for natural sweetness and flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar based on the sweetness of your watermelon.
  • You can substitute lemon juice with lime juice for a slightly different citrus twist.
  • Stirring during freezing prevents large ice crystals and keeps the texture light and fluffy.
  • For a boozy variation, add a splash of vodka or rum before serving.
