This turkey burger recipe offers a juicy, flavorful alternative to beef burgers, perfect for a quick and delicious meal. Ready in just 20 minutes, these turkey burgers can be cooked on the grill, stovetop, or oven, making them versatile for any kitchen setup. Enhanced with classic spices and condiments, they deliver great taste and a satisfying texture.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • 1/3 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 egg

For Serving

  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Condiments: ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, BBQ sauce
  • Toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, avocado, sautéed mushrooms, jalapeños

Instructions

  1. Mix ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, garlic powder, onion powder, ketchup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, freshly ground pepper, egg, and bread crumbs. Mix just until all ingredients are evenly incorporated, being careful not to overwork the meat to keep the burgers tender.
  2. Shape patties: Form the mixture into 4 patties about 1/2 inch thick. They will be quite moist. Use your thumb to make a shallow depression in the center of each patty, which helps them cook evenly and prevents puffing up. Place the patties on a plate lined with parchment paper.
  3. Freeze patties: To help the patties hold their shape during cooking, freeze them for 20 minutes before cooking.
  4. Cooking – grill method: Preheat and clean grill grates, then grease them well with oil to prevent sticking. Heat the grill to medium-high. Place the turkey burgers on the grill and cook for several minutes on each side until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Use a meat thermometer to ensure doneness.
  5. Cooking – skillet method: Heat canola oil in a nonstick griddle or large nonstick frying pan over medium-high heat, or spray the pan generously with non-stick cooking spray. Once the pan is hot, cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked through and an internal temperature of 160°F is reached.
  6. Cooking – oven method: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the turkey patties on a baking sheet for 25-30 minutes until cooked through. For a nicely seared crust, finish by searing the patties in a hot pan for 2 minutes on each side.
  7. Serve: Place cooked patties on hamburger buns and top with your choice of condiments like ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, or BBQ sauce, and various toppings such as lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, avocado, sautéed mushrooms, or jalapeños. Enjoy your delicious turkey burgers!

Notes

  • Use a meat thermometer to check that patties reach an internal temperature of 160°F for safety.
  • Freezing the patties briefly before cooking helps prevent them from falling apart.
  • Do not overmix the turkey mixture to avoid tough burgers.
  • These burgers can be cooked on grill, stovetop skillet, or in the oven for flexibility.
  • Customize your burger toppings and condiments to suit your taste.
  • Use lean ground turkey to reduce fat but maintain juiciness with added condiments and breadcrumbs.
