This quick and flavorful Ground Beef Cheesesteak recipe combines seasoned ground beef with melted cheese, served on soft hoagie rolls for an easy and satisfying sandwich perfect for weeknight dinners or casual meals.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Ground Beef Mixture

  • 1/2-1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 2 lbs ground beef (80-85% lean)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt (or to taste)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons black pepper (or to taste)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons granulated garlic (or to taste)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons dried parsley (or to taste)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, American, or your choice)

Serving

  • 4 hoagie rolls (sub rolls, Amoroso rolls recommended)
  • Optional: banana peppers for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat the Skillet: Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of avocado oil to coat the pan evenly.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef: Add 2 pounds of ground beef to the hot skillet. Season with kosher salt, black pepper, granulated garlic, and dried parsley. Use a potato masher or meat masher to break up the meat as it cooks. Continue until the beef is fully browned and cooked through, allowing the fat to render and infuse the meat.
  3. Melt the Cheese: Lower the heat to medium-low and sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheese over the cooked beef. Stir continuously until the cheese is completely melted and well mixed into the beef.
  4. Assemble the Sandwiches: Spoon the cheesy ground beef mixture evenly into each of the 4 hoagie rolls.
  5. Serve: Serve the sandwiches warm. Optional: top with banana peppers for added flavor and texture.

Notes

  • For best flavor, use a mix of cheeses like provolone and cheddar.
  • Do not drain the fat from the beef, as it adds flavor and moisture.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste; feel free to add other herbs or spices like onion powder or smoked paprika.
  • You can toast the hoagie rolls slightly for added crunch.
  • Banana peppers add a nice tangy kick but are optional.
