This Cinnamon Pear Crumble is a warm and comforting fall dessert featuring juicy Bartlett pears coated in cinnamon, ginger, and maple syrup, topped with a buttery, gluten-free crumble. It’s perfect for cozy gatherings or a sweet seasonal treat.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

Pears

  • 5 large Bartlett pears
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Crumble

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 1 – 1 ¼ cups gluten free all-purpose baking flour (see notes)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and set aside a 9-inch pie dish for baking.
  2. Prepare Pears: Peel and core the pears, then slice them into strips and halve each strip for an even texture. Place the sliced pears into a large mixing bowl.
  3. Toss Pear Ingredients: Add lemon juice, maple syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, salt, vanilla, and cornstarch to the pears. Toss well until all pears are evenly coated with the mixture.
  4. Make Crumble Topping: In a separate bowl, combine softened butter and white sugar using a fork until smooth. Add 1 cup of gluten-free flour, cinnamon, and salt, mixing until crumbly. Add up to 2-4 tablespoons more flour if needed to achieve a crumbly texture.
  5. Assemble: Transfer the pear mixture to the prepared pie dish, spreading evenly. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the pears.
  6. Bake: Place the pie dish on a cookie sheet to catch any spills and bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

Notes

  • For a cleaner oven, place the pie dish on a cookie sheet as the pear filling can bubble over.
  • You can use any variety of pears, but Bartlett pears are preferred for their sweetness and juiciness.
  • This recipe uses gluten-free flour, but you can substitute with regular all-purpose flour if preferred.
  • Butter should be softened to room temperature for easier mixing of the crumble topping.
  • The crumble topping consistency should be crumbly but not dry; add more flour as needed.
