Ingredients
Chocolate Coating
- 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup butterscotch chips
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
Base
- 2 1/2 cups Chex Cereal (Rice or Corn Chex recommended)
- 1/3 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Prepare Cereal: Place the Chex cereal in a medium-sized bowl and set aside to keep it ready for coating.
- Prepare Powdered Sugar Bag: Pour the powdered sugar into a large Ziploc bag and keep it ready for coating the chocolate-covered cereal.
- Melt Chocolate and Butterscotch Chips: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine milk chocolate chips and butterscotch chips. Microwave on half power for 30 seconds, then stir. Repeat heating for another 30 seconds. If not fully melted, continue microwaving at half power in 15-second intervals, stirring thoroughly after each, until the mixture is completely smooth.
- Add Vanilla: Stir the vanilla bean paste into the melted chocolate and butterscotch mixture to blend the flavors evenly.
- Coat Cereal: Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the Chex cereal. Gently stir with a spatula to make sure every piece is thoroughly coated with the chocolate mixture.
- Coat with Powdered Sugar: Transfer the chocolate-covered cereal into the Ziploc bag containing the powdered sugar. Seal the bag tightly and shake vigorously until all cereal pieces are coated evenly with powdered sugar.
- Serve and Enjoy: Transfer the puppy chow to a serving bowl or container and enjoy this sweet, crunchy treat immediately or store for later snacking.
Notes
- Use Rice or Corn Chex for best texture and flavor absorption.
- Ensure that the chocolate mixture is not overheated to avoid burning the chips.
- Shake the bag well to evenly coat the cereal with powdered sugar without clumps.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days to maintain freshness and crunch.
- Vanilla bean paste can be substituted with vanilla extract if unavailable.
