This easy and elegant Baked Brie recipe features a soft, melted wheel of brie cheese, optionally drizzled with honey and garnished with thyme, served warm alongside crostini and grapes. Perfect for entertaining or a simple, indulgent appetizer.

  • Total Time: 21 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

Cheese

  • 250 – 500g (8 – 16 oz) round brie or camembert
  • 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 thyme sprig (optional)

Accompaniments

  • 1 bunch purple or green grapes (optional)
  • Crostini

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) for all oven types to prepare for baking the brie.
  2. Prepare the Brie: Unwrap the brie and place it in a small, shallow ovenproof dish slightly larger than the cheese, or alternatively on a piece of crumpled baking or parchment paper to facilitate transfer after baking.
  3. Bake the Brie: Bake the brie in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes if using a 250g (8oz) wheel or up to 25 minutes for a 500g (1lb) wheel. The cheese should feel very soft at the center, indicating it is melted and ready.
  4. Microwave Option: If preferred, microwave the brie on high for about 2 minutes in 30-second increments until melted.
  5. Transfer Carefully: Gently transfer the baked brie to a serving plate or board. Use the parchment paper if it was used to avoid breaking the delicate cheese.
  6. Add Toppings: Drizzle the melted brie with honey or maple syrup and garnish with a sprig of fresh thyme if desired.
  7. Serve: Serve the baked brie immediately with crostini for scooping. Provide a regular knife to slice through the rind and a cheese or pâté knife to help scoop the soft cheese onto crostini or crackers.

Notes

  • The optional honey or maple syrup adds a lovely sweetness that complements the creamy cheese.
  • Using parchment paper helps in transferring the delicate melted brie without breaking it.
  • Baked brie is best enjoyed immediately while warm and gooey.
  • You can substitute brie with camembert for a similar result.
  • Serving with grapes and flavored crostini enhances both flavor and presentation.
