Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp Dutch cocoa powder (or additional unsweetened cocoa powder)
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1 can black beans (approximately 15 oz), drained and rinsed (or 1 1/2 cups cooked black beans)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup (or honey)
- 1/4 cup mashed avocado (about 60g)
- 1/4 cup coconut oil (or almond butter)
- 2 tsp pure vanilla flavoring
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (not optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s at the right temperature when the batter is ready.
- Prepare Beans and Oats: Drain and rinse the black beans thoroughly to remove excess sodium and improve taste. If using rolled oats, blend them in a food processor until they reach a fine flour-like consistency to provide structure to the brownies.
- Blend Ingredients: In a food processor, combine the blended oats, rinsed black beans, unsweetened cocoa powder, Dutch cocoa powder, salt, maple syrup, mashed avocado, coconut oil, vanilla flavoring, and baking powder. Process until you achieve a completely smooth batter free of lumps. The food processor helps achieve the best texture and flavor balance.
- Add Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the mini chocolate chips to distribute them evenly throughout the batter without breaking them up.
- Prepare Baking Pan: Grease an 8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make removal easier.
- Bake the Brownies: Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the surface evenly. Place the pan on the center rack of the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes. The brownies should be set but still moist.
- Cool and Refrigerate: Remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool at room temperature. For best results, refrigerate the brownies for a few hours or overnight. This chilling step allows the brownies to firm up and develop their rich, fudgy texture, making them easier to cut and enjoy.
Notes
- Using a food processor instead of a blender results in a better texture and flavor.
- If you prefer, honey can substitute pure maple syrup but will affect flavor slightly.
- Make sure to rinse black beans well to remove any canned taste or excess salt.
- Refrigeration after baking is key to firmer brownies.
- Mini chocolate chips are essential for texture and chocolate bursts in every bite.
- Feel free to substitute coconut oil with almond butter for a nuttier flavor profile.
