Delight in these light and fluffy Vegan Tofu Donuts, made with silken tofu and deep-fried to golden perfection. These bite-sized donut holes are coated in a cinnamon-sugar mix, offering a sweet and satisfying vegan treat perfect for any occasion.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 20 servings

Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • ½ block Silken tofu (200g / 7 oz)
  • 3 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1½ Tbsp Maple syrup
  • 1 cup & 3 Tbsp All-purpose flour (150g / 285ml)
  • 2 tsp Baking powder

For Frying

  • Vegetable Oil (for frying, enough to deep fry)

Coating

  • 1 Tbsp Sugar
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon (or cacao powder, kinako)

Instructions

  1. Make the Dough: Whisk the silken tofu in a bowl until creamy and smooth. Add sugar and maple syrup, then continue whisking until the mixture is uniform. Gradually incorporate the all-purpose flour and baking powder, mixing gently until a well-combined batter forms with a slightly thick consistency suitable for shaping.
  2. Deep-fry: Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat to approximately 350°F (175°C). Using two spoons, carefully shape the dough into small balls and gently drop them into the hot oil. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure an even golden brown color. Once cooked through, transfer the donuts onto a cooling rack or paper towels to drain excess oil.
  3. Coat the Donuts: In a small bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon (or your preferred coating like cacao powder or kinako). While the donuts are still warm, roll them thoroughly in the sugar mixture until evenly coated, enhancing sweetness and adding a pleasant flavor contrast.

Notes

  • Use silken tofu for a tender, moist texture—regular tofu will alter the consistency.
  • Maintain oil temperature to avoid greasy or undercooked donuts.
  • Optionally substitute cinnamon with cacao powder or kinako for a unique flavor twist.
  • Donuts are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • Adjust sugar in coating to taste for more or less sweetness.
