Ingredients
Herbs & Fresh Ingredients
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 2 Tbsp chopped parsley (optional)
- 1.5 tsp lemon juice
Protein & Binders
- 1 12oz. can chunk light tuna in water, drained
- 1 large egg
- 2 Tbsp mayonnaise
Other Ingredients
- 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp seasoning salt
- 2 Tbsp cooking oil
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Roughly chop the parsley and green onions, then drain the canned tuna well to remove excess water.
- Mix the Patty Mixture: In a bowl, combine the drained tuna, chopped green onions, parsley, breadcrumbs, egg, mayonnaise, seasoning salt, and lemon juice. Mix gently until evenly combined, being careful not to over mix to keep the patties tender.
- Form Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a round patty about ¾ inch thick.
- Heat Skillet and Cook Patties: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the cooking oil and swirl to coat the surface evenly. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for approximately 5 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden brown and develop a slightly crisp exterior.
- Serve: Serve the tuna patties warm, either on a bed of fresh greens or stuffed inside pita bread for a delightful meal.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of black pepper or garlic powder to the mixture.
- You can substitute mayonnaise with Greek yogurt for a lighter option.
- Make sure to drain the tuna thoroughly to avoid soggy patties.
- These patties can be baked at 375°F (190°C) for about 15-20 minutes as an alternative to pan-frying.
- Serve with a squeeze of fresh lemon or a dollop of tartar sauce for added taste.
