These Oven Fried Feta Rolls with Chili Honey are a crispy, savory appetizer featuring flaky phyllo dough stuffed with a flavorful feta, dill, and garlic filling. Baked to golden perfection and served with a sweet and spicy chili honey dipping sauce, they make a delightful snack or party treat.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 12-16 rolls (serves 12)

Ingredients

Feta Roll Filling

  • 8 ounces feta cheese, crumbled
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chopped dill
  • 1 clove garlic, grated

Phyllo Rolls

  • 16-20 sheets frozen phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, plus more for brushing

Chili Honey Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon salted butter
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1-2 teaspoons chili flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seed
  • 1/3 cup honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Make the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the crumbled feta cheese, fresh chopped dill, and grated garlic until well incorporated.
  3. Prepare Olive Oil for Brushing: Pour about 1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil into a small bowl for brushing the phyllo dough sheets.
  4. Assemble the Rolls: Lay one sheet of thawed phyllo dough on a clean surface and gently fold it in half crosswise. Using a brush, lightly oil the edges of the phyllo. Place approximately 1 rounded tablespoon of the feta mixture along the short end of the dough. Roll the phyllo over the filling, folding the side edges inward to seal like a burrito. Place the roll seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat this process to create 12 to 16 rolls.
  5. Brush Rolls with Olive Oil: Brush the tops of each phyllo roll with olive oil to ensure a golden, crispy exterior.
  6. Bake the Rolls: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and crisp on top.
  7. Prepare Chili Honey Sauce: While the rolls bake, melt the salted butter together with 1 tablespoon olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the chili flakes and cumin seeds, cooking until fragrant, about 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the honey until well combined.
  8. Serve: Serve the baked feta rolls warm alongside the chili honey sauce for dipping or drizzling over the top.

Notes

  • Handle phyllo dough carefully as it is very delicate and can dry out quickly; keep sheets covered with a damp cloth when not in use.
  • You can adjust the amount of chili flakes in the honey sauce to suit your spice preference.
  • These rolls are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven but can be reheated gently in the oven to maintain crispiness.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute the feta with a suitable vegan cheese alternative and use vegan butter.
  • If you don’t have fresh dill, dried dill can be used but reduce the quantity to about 1 tablespoon.
