Ingredients
- For the Simple Syrup:
- 12 ounces frozen mixed berries (I used Trader Joe’s Organic bag)
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 ¼ cups water
- For the Lemonade:
- 1 cup lemon juice (from about 10 to 12 lemons)
- 1 ⅓ cups berry simple syrup (whole batch from above)
- 6 cups cold water
- 2 lemons, sliced for garnish
- Ice
Instructions
- Prepare the Simple Syrup: In a medium saucepan, combine frozen mixed berries, granulated sugar, and water. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat and let it simmer for 20 minutes. The sugar should dissolve, and the berries will begin to burst and break down.
- Make the Lemon Juice: While the syrup simmers, wash the lemons, slice them in half, and use a citrus press to squeeze out 1 cup lemon juice.
- Cool the Syrup: Remove the berry syrup from heat and let it cool in the pot for 20 minutes. Once cooled, strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing the berries to extract as much juice as possible.
- Combine Lemonade: In a large pitcher, combine the lemon juice, 1 ⅓ cups berry simple syrup, and 6 cups cold water. Slice 2 lemons into 8 slices and add 4 slices to the lemonade. Stir everything together to combine.
- Serve: Serve the lemonade in highball glasses filled with ice. Garnish each glass with a lemon slice and some fresh berries. Add a straw, and enjoy this refreshing beverage!
