  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 28 tablespoons

Ingredients

  • 1 cup real mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup dill pickle relish, or 3/4 cup finely chopped dill pickles
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped fresh dill, or 1 tsp dried
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp dijon mustard
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper, optional

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir well until fully mixed.
  2. Transfer the tartar sauce to an airtight container.
  3. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld (optional but recommended).
  4. Store in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Notes

  • Use fresh dill for the best flavor, but dried works in a pinch.
  • Adjust sweetness by increasing or decreasing the sugar.
  • Great as a dip for fries, fish sticks, or even spread on sandwiches.
  • Letting the sauce chill improves the flavor significantly.
