Ingredients
Ground Beef Mixture
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/2 medium onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning (or to taste)
Sauce and Gnocchi
- 1 (14 ounce) can diced tomatoes with juices
- 1/3 cup chicken or beef broth
- 3/4 cup heavy/whipping cream
- 1 pound uncooked potato gnocchi
- 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Brown the Ground Beef and Onion: In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion for 7 to 10 minutes until the beef is browned and the onion is softened. If there is excess fat, spoon most of it out from the skillet.
- Add Aromatics and Seasoning: Stir in the minced garlic and Italian seasoning to the browned beef and onion, cooking briefly until fragrant.
- Add Tomatoes, Broth, Cream, and Gnocchi: Pour in the diced tomatoes with their juices, chicken or beef broth, heavy cream, and uncooked potato gnocchi. Stir well to combine all ingredients. When the sauce starts bubbling again, cover the skillet and reduce heat to medium.
- Simmer Until Gnocchi is Tender: Allow the mixture to cook covered for 5 minutes, then uncover and stir. Continue cooking for a few more minutes until the gnocchi is cooked through and the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
- Finish and Serve: Stir in the freshly grated parmesan cheese and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately while hot.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef to keep the dish lighter and reduce excess grease.
- You can substitute chicken broth with vegetable broth to make it milder.
- For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes along with the Italian seasoning.
- Make sure to stir occasionally during simmering to prevent the gnocchi from sticking to the pan.
- If you prefer a thicker sauce, let it cook uncovered for a few more minutes.
