  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 24 servings

Ingredients

  • For the Steak:
  • 8 oz Filet Mignon steaks
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (optional)
  • 2 tbsp steak seasoning
  • For the Horseradish Sauce:
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup prepared horseradish
  • 1 ½ tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tbsp fresh chopped chives
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • For the Crostini:
  • 1 day-old baguette, cut into ¼ inch slices
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, smashed (optional)
  • For the Caramelized Onions:
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tbsp butter
  • ¼ tsp sugar
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Optional Garnishes:
  • Chopped fresh chives
  • Balsamic glaze

Instructions

  1. Grill the Steaks: Preheat a gas grill to 450°F (230°C) or prepare a charcoal grill. Season the steaks liberally with kosher salt and black pepper on both sides. Place the steaks on the grill, cover, and cook for 4-5 minutes until a crust forms. Flip the steaks and cook for another 4-5 minutes or until the desired doneness (125°F for medium-rare). Remove from the grill and cover with foil. Let rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Make the Horseradish Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together sour cream, horseradish, Dijon mustard, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and chopped chives.
  3. Make the Crostini: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the baguette into ¼ inch thick slices. In a small bowl, stir together melted butter, olive oil, and smashed garlic. Brush the oil mixture onto both sides of the bread slices. Arrange on a baking sheet. Bake for 5 minutes, flip the bread, and bake for another 3-4 minutes until crisp and lightly toasted. Let cool to room temperature.
  4. Make the Caramelized Onions: Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add diced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes until deeply caramelized. Stir in the sugar and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes. Season with salt to taste.
  5. Assemble the Crostini: Spread 1 teaspoon of horseradish sauce on each crostini. Slice the steak across the grain and place a slice of steak on each crostini. Top with ½ tbsp of caramelized onions. Garnish with chopped chives and drizzle with balsamic glaze, if desired.
