Ingredients
- For the 10-Minute Homemade Pizza Dough:
- 2 ¾ cups sifted white flour
- 1 tsp salt
- ¾ tsp instant yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 cup + 2 tbsp water (at room temperature)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- For the Cheesy Garlic Spread:
- 50g butter (softened, not melted)
- 5 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley (minced)
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- ¼ tsp salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese (grated)
- ½ cup parmesan cheese (grated)
Instructions
- Make the Pizza Dough:
- Mix the Dough: In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the sifted flour, salt, instant yeast, sugar, water, and olive oil. Mix for 1 minute, then let it rest for 5 minutes to hydrate the flour. After resting, mix on medium speed for an additional 3 minutes.
- Shape the Dough: Drizzle a bit of olive oil on a clean work surface and rub your hands in it. Scrape the dough out of the mixer bowl and shape it into a ball by pulling down on either side with your hands and meeting them underneath the dough. Repeat this turning method until the dough is smooth. Cut the dough in half and shape each half into a smooth ball. Place the dough in an oiled plastic bag or airtight container and refrigerate for a minimum of 3 hours (or up to 3 days).
- Prepare for Baking: 90 minutes before baking, take the dough out of the fridge, shape it into smooth balls again, place them on oiled parchment paper, and cover with a towel.
- Make the Cheesy Garlic Spread: In a small bowl, mash together the softened butter, garlic, parsley, oregano, salt, and pepper using a fork.
- Assemble the Garlic Breadsticks: Preheat the oven to 200°C/390°F. If you have a pizza stone, preheat that as well. If not, preheat a baking tray and flip it upside down to bake the breadsticks on. Lightly flour your work surface and roll out one portion of dough into a rectangle the length of your baking tray. Transfer the dough to parchment paper and spread half of the garlic butter mixture over it. Sprinkle with half of the mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
- Bake: If using a pizza stone, slide the parchment paper with the dough onto the stone. If using a baking tray, carefully remove the hot tray from the oven, flip it upside down, and slide the dough (with parchment) onto the tray. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden on top.
- Slice and Serve: Once baked, slice the garlic breadsticks lengthwise and then into 2-finger width pieces. Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
- Freezing: You can assemble the breadsticks and freeze them for later. Bake directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
- Add-Ons: Feel free to add extra herbs, red pepper flakes, or even a bit of garlic powder for more flavor.
- Serving Suggestions: These cheesy garlic breadsticks are perfect for dipping in marinara sauce, serving alongside French onion soup, or pairing with spinach artichoke dip.
