Ingredients
Turkey and Seasoned Butter
- 3 lbs boneless turkey breast, thawed and netting removed
- 3 tablespoons salted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
Gravy
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
Instructions
- Make seasoned butter: In a bowl, combine the softened butter with salt, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and Italian seasoning. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated to create the seasoned butter.
- Prep the turkey breast: Pat the turkey breast dry with paper towels. Rub the seasoned butter mixture all over the turkey, making sure to get underneath any skin, into crevices left by the removed netting, and on the bottom side of the turkey for even flavoring.
- Slow cook: Place the buttered turkey breast into the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low heat for 4 to 6 hours, or until the internal temperature of the turkey reaches 165°F (74°C) indicating it is fully cooked.
- Broil: Carefully remove the cooked turkey breast and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Place under the oven broiler for 3 to 5 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning, until the top crisps up nicely. Remove from the oven and let it rest while you prepare the gravy.
- Make gravy: Strain the cooking liquids from the slow cooker through a wire mesh sieve into a saucepan. Bring the liquid to a low simmer over medium heat. In a separate small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Slowly whisk this slurry into the simmering liquid until it thickens into a smooth gravy.
- Slice and serve: Slice the rested turkey breast into portions and serve with the freshly made gravy spooned over the top. Enjoy your hearty, flavorful meal.
Notes
- Ensure the turkey reaches an internal temperature of 165°F to guarantee it is safe to eat.
- Broiling at the end crisps the skin and adds texture but watch carefully to prevent burning.
- The gravy can be adjusted in thickness by varying the amount of cornstarch slurry added.
- You can prepare the seasoned butter in advance to save time on cooking day.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
