Enjoy perfectly crispy and salty fried okra with this simple 3-ingredient air fryer recipe. Ready in just 12 minutes, this recipe offers a healthier, oil-sprayed alternative to traditional frying using your air fryer for a crunchy texture and delicious taste.

  • Total Time: 12 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Vegetables

  • 12 ounces fresh okra, washed, dried, ends discarded, sliced into rounds

Coating

  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup Zatarain’s Seasoned Fish Breading or similar seasoned breading product

Other

  • Spray oil (for air fryer basket and okra)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Okra: Wash the fresh okra thoroughly and pat completely dry. Discard the ends and slice the okra into rounds, aiming for an even thickness to ensure uniform cooking.
  2. Coat with Mayonnaise: Toss the sliced okra in 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise until each piece is fully coated. This helps the breading adhere to the okra better.
  3. Apply Breading: Add 1/4 of the seasoned breading to the bowl with the okra and stir to coat. Then add the remaining breading, stirring thoroughly to ensure the okra is well coated. If needed, add 1-2 teaspoons of mayonnaise to help any leftover breading stick.
  4. Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 390°F (200°C) for 3 minutes before cooking the okra to ensure a crispy texture.
  5. Air Fry the Okra: Arrange the breaded okra slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Lightly spray the okra with oil. Air fry for 5 minutes, then turn or shake the basket and fry for another 4-5 minutes until the okra is golden brown and crispy.
  6. Check and Serve: Cooking times may vary based on okra slice thickness and air fryer model, so monitor closely toward the end. Remove the okra once it is evenly crispy and brown. Serve immediately as a delicious crunchy side dish.
