A warm, spiced bread filled with chunks of apples, sweetened with apple butter, and topped with a cinnamon-sugar crust for a perfect dessert or breakfast treat.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Yield: 10 servings

Ingredients

  • For the Bread:
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup butter, softened
  • ⅔ cup apple butter
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ¼ cup plain fat-free Greek yogurt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar (for topping)
  • For the Apples:
  • 2 apples, peeled and chopped into ½-inch chunks
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ½ tablespoon cinnamon
  • ½ tablespoon flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with cooking spray and set it aside.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In the bowl of an electric mixer, combine the sugar and butter. Beat at medium speed until fluffy. Add the apple butter, milk, Greek yogurt, and eggs. Mix on low speed until well combined.
  3. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: With the mixer on low speed, slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Beat just until blended.
  5. Prepare the Apples: In a small bowl, stir together the chopped apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and flour.
  6. Add Apples to the Batter: Gently fold the apple mixture into the batter.
  7. Bake the Bread: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle the turbinado sugar over the top. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool and Serve: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes on a wire rack. Remove the bread from the pan and allow it to cool completely on the wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • If you prefer a sweeter crust, you can sprinkle more turbinado sugar on top before baking.
  • Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or freeze it for up to 3 months.
  • You can use any variety of apple for this bread, but tart apples like Granny Smith will balance the sweetness nicely.
