These rich and creamy dark chocolate truffles are simple to prepare and melt delightfully in your mouth. Made with smooth melted chocolate and cream, they offer a luxurious treat perfect for any occasion.

  • Total Time: 2 hours 5 minutes
  • Yield: 15-20 truffles

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 8 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or full-fat canned coconut milk

Optional Additions

  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For Coating

  • Cocoa powder
  • Sprinkles
  • Crushed walnuts or almonds
  • Shredded coconut
  • Powdered sugar
  • Melted chocolate

Instructions

  1. Chop the Chocolate: Finely chop the semi-sweet or dark chocolate to ensure it melts quickly and evenly, creating a smooth base for the truffles.
  2. Heat the Cream or Coconut Milk: Gently heat the heavy cream or full-fat canned coconut milk in a saucepan just until it barely begins to boil, being careful not to scorch it.
  3. Combine and Stir: Pour the hot cream or coconut milk over the chopped chocolate. Add a pinch of salt and vanilla extract if using. Stir gently but thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  4. Chill the Mixture: Cover the chocolate mixture and refrigerate it for at least 2 hours or until it firms up enough to scoop.
  5. Shape the Truffles: Using a mini cookie scoop or your hands, scoop and roll the chilled mixture into small balls.
  6. Coat the Truffles: Roll the formed truffles in your choice of coatings such as cocoa powder, sprinkles, crushed nuts, shredded coconut, powdered sugar, or a drizzle of melted chocolate for added flavor and texture.
  7. Set and Store: Place the coated truffles on a parchment-lined plate. Refrigerate or freeze until ready to serve. Leftover truffles can be stored in the refrigerator for 1-2 months.

Notes

  • For flavor variations, try infusing the cream with coffee, raspberry, peppermint, or coconut before mixing.
  • If using coconut milk, ensure it is full-fat canned type for rich texture.
  • Handle the truffle mixture with slightly chilled hands to prevent melting while rolling.
  • Store truffles in an airtight container to maintain freshness and prevent moisture absorption.
  • Feel free to customize coatings to your taste or occasion preferences.
