Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 lb 93% lean ground turkey
- 2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, diced
- ½ tsp ground cumin
- ½ tsp ground onion
- ½ tsp ground garlic
- ¼ tsp paprika
- ½ tsp salt & pepper
- ⅓ cup almond meal, or ⅔ cup panko bread crumbs
Toppings & Buns
- 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese slices
- Favorite hamburger buns
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- 1 ripe medium avocado, mashed
- 1 ear grilled corn, sliced off cob
- Handful of spinach
Instructions
- Preheat Grill: Preheat your grill to medium heat, approximately 400ºF, to ensure a perfect cooking temperature for the turkey burgers.
- Prepare Turkey Mixture: In a large bowl, thoroughly combine the ground turkey, diced chipotle peppers, ground cumin, ground onion, ground garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, and almond meal or panko bread crumbs. Mix gently to incorporate all ingredients without overworking the meat.
- Shape Patties: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and gently shape each into a patty, taking care to keep them uniform for even cooking.
- Grill Patties: Place the patties directly onto the preheated grill grates. Cook on one side for about 4 minutes until grill marks form, then flip and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes. Check that the internal temperature has reached 165ºF to ensure they are fully cooked.
- Add Cheese: Remove the burgers from the grill and place a slice of sharp cheddar cheese on each patty. Allow the cheese to melt from the residual heat.
- Assemble Burgers: Place each chipotle cheddar turkey burger onto the hamburger buns. Top with sliced tomato, mashed avocado, grilled corn slices, and a handful of fresh spinach leaves for added flavor and texture.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve immediately while warm and enjoy your delicious, smoky, and cheesy turkey burgers.
Notes
- For a gluten-free option, use almond meal instead of panko bread crumbs.
- Adjust the amount of chipotle peppers according to your preferred spice level.
- Using a meat thermometer ensures the burgers are safely cooked to an internal temperature of 165ºF.
- You can substitute hamburger buns with lettuce wraps for a low-carb alternative.
- Grilled corn adds a nice sweetness and texture contrast, but can be omitted or replaced with other vegetables.
