Ingredients
- Crust and Crumble Topping:
- 1 1/2 cups butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, lightly packed
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups old-fashioned oats
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
- Apple Filling:
- 3 1/2 cups apples, peeled and diced (Granny Smith and Gala)
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 (10.8 oz) package caramels (e.g., Werther’s soft caramels)
- 3 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix together melted butter, brown sugar, flour, oats, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, and vanilla until well combined.
- Press half of the mixture into the prepared baking pan to form the crust.
- In a separate bowl, toss diced apples with lemon juice, allspice, and flour until evenly coated. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust.
- In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the caramels with the heavy cream, stirring frequently until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Let cool slightly.
- Drizzle the caramel sauce evenly over the apples.
- Crumble the remaining oat mixture evenly over the top.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool for about 30 minutes before slicing.
- Serve as-is or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
Notes
- Use a mix of tart and sweet apples (like Granny Smith and Gala) for the best flavor balance.
- Let the bars cool completely for cleaner slices.
- To save time, use pre-made soft caramels for the sauce, or substitute with store-bought caramel sauce if needed.
- Bars can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for 2–3 days or refrigerated for up to 5 days.
