Ingredients
- Sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
- 1 tablespoon minced onion
- 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- Sloppy Joes:
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 6 hamburger buns
- 6 slices American cheese
- Shredded lettuce (optional)
- Sliced pickles (optional)
Instructions
- Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together all of the sauce ingredients. Once combined, refrigerate until needed.
- Cook the Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks. When the beef is nearly browned through, add the diced onion and cook until the onion is soft.
- Season the Beef: Add the yellow mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet. Cook for another minute, allowing the flavors to combine.
- Make the Sloppy Joe Mixture: Whisk the beef broth and cornstarch together in a small bowl. Pour this mixture into the skillet with the beef. Stir and continue cooking until the mixture thickens slightly. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
- Toast the Buns: Preheat your oven to broil. Place the hamburger buns on a baking sheet, cut sides up. Toast them under the broiler until lightly browned. You can butter the buns before broiling if you like, but it’s optional.
- Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Spread a generous amount of Big Mac sauce on both sides of each toasted bun. Add a slice of American cheese to the top half of the bun and return it to the oven just until the cheese starts to melt.
- Final Touches: Add sliced pickles (if using) to the bottom half of the bun, then scoop the ground beef mixture on top. Top with shredded lettuce (if using), then place the top bun with melted cheese to finish.
- Serve: Serve immediately and enjoy your Big Mac-inspired sloppy joes!
Notes
- For extra flavor, try adding some diced tomatoes or sautéed bell peppers to the beef mixture.
- For a healthier version, swap the ground beef for ground turkey or chicken.
- Feel free to add more or less mustard and pickles to suit your tastes!
