A delicious and savory stromboli filled with tangy BBQ chicken, melty provolone cheese, and sautéed onions, all wrapped in golden, crispy dough.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 10 slices

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 small red onion, julienned
  • 1 pizza dough
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 cups rotisserie chicken, shredded
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Parmesan cheese, grated

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small skillet over medium-high heat, melt the butter. Add the julienned onions and sauté until tender. Set aside to cool.
  3. Roll out the pizza dough on a piece of parchment paper. Place the provolone cheese slices in a row down the center of the dough.
  4. In a small bowl, toss the shredded rotisserie chicken, sautéed onions, and BBQ sauce until well combined. Place this mixture over the provolone cheese.
  5. Starting from one side, carefully roll the dough up like a jelly roll, using the parchment paper to help. Slide the stromboli to the middle of the parchment so the seam is on the bottom.
  6. Stretch and tuck the ends of the dough under the stromboli. Brush the outside of the dough with the beaten egg and sprinkle with Italian seasoning and grated Parmesan cheese. Cut several diagonal slits into the top of the dough.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Serve hot with extra BBQ sauce on the side.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the BBQ chicken mixture for a spicy kick.
  • Feel free to substitute the provolone cheese with mozzarella or cheddar if you prefer.
  • Serve with a side of coleslaw or a salad for a complete meal.
