Ingredients
Crust and Filling
- 18.12 ounce package Golden Oreo cookies (family-sized)
- 2 cups dried banana chips
- 2 ripe bananas (to yield about 1 cup mashed)
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened at room temperature
Coating and Topping
- 16 ounces white chocolate
- 3 teaspoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup walnuts, crushed
Instructions
- Prepare the Baking Surface: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside to use later for placing the truffles.
- Process Oreos: Place whole Golden Oreo cookies in the bowl of a food processor and pulse until the cookies are finely ground with no chunks remaining.
- Add Banana Chips: Add dried banana chips to the cookie crumbs in the food processor and continue pulsing until the mixture reaches a fine, sandy texture.
- Mash Bananas and Cream Cheese: In a medium-sized bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until smooth. Add softened cream cheese and blend the mixture with a hand-held mixer on high speed until fully combined and creamy.
- Combine Mixtures: Fold the Oreo and banana chip crumbs into the banana and cream cheese mixture until a smooth, paste-like dough forms.
- Chill Dough: Refrigerate the dough mixture for 1 hour to firm up for easier handling.
- Shape Truffles: Using a small cookie scoop, scoop small amounts of the dough and place them on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Shape each mound into a smooth ball with your hands.
- Freeze Truffles: Freeze the shaped dough balls for 2 hours or until they are firm and easy to dip.
- Melt White Chocolate: Heat the white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. Stir in vegetable oil until well blended to achieve a silky coating.
- Dip Truffles: Using a fork, dip each frozen truffle into the melted white chocolate until fully coated. Tap the fork on the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate and place the coated truffle back on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Top with Walnuts: Quickly sprinkle crushed walnuts over each truffle before the chocolate sets. If the chocolate hardens too quickly, dab a bit of melted white chocolate on the truffle and then add the walnuts to ensure they stick.
Notes
- Only use brick-style cream cheese to achieve the best texture; do not substitute with whipped or tub-style cream cheese.
- Soften the cream cheese at room temperature before starting to avoid clumps and ensure smooth mixing.
- Use ripe bananas to ensure the truffles are sweet and mash easily.
- You can substitute white chocolate with dark, milk, or semi-sweet chocolate for a different flavor in the coating.
- Work quickly when sprinkling walnuts on the truffles to prevent the chocolate from setting too soon.
